KTM, short for Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, is an Austrian manufacturer known for its motorcycles and, more recently, bicycles and related components. The company is renowned for its off-road motorcycles, but it also produces street and adventure models, as well as electric bikes and e-mountain bikes under the KTM umbrella. KTM motorcycles are noted for lightweight chassis, competitive engines, and a long-standing emphasis on performance and durability, with a strong presence in motocross, enduro, and rally disciplines.
The company was founded in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen, Austria, initially as a metalworking shop.
