Küllastustasemest

Küllastustasemest refers to the degree to which a substance or solution is saturated with another substance. In chemistry, it often relates to the solubility of a solute in a solvent. When a solution reaches its saturation point, no more solute can dissolve under the given conditions of temperature and pressure.

If more solute is added beyond the saturation point, it will typically remain undissolved, forming a precipitate or remaining as a solid at the bottom of the container. The saturation point is a dynamic equilibrium; the dissolved solute molecules are constantly dissolving and re-crystallizing.

Factors such as temperature significantly influence the saturation level. For most solid solutes in liquid solvents, increasing the temperature increases the solubility, thus raising the saturation point. Conversely, for gases dissolved in liquids, increasing the temperature generally decreases solubility. Pressure also plays a role, particularly for gas solubility, where higher pressure leads to higher saturation levels.

The concept of saturation is crucial in various applications, including chemical synthesis, purification processes, and understanding natural phenomena like mineral formation. It helps predict how much of a substance can be dissolved and under what conditions.
