Kõnekodeerija is the Estonian term for a speech encoder. It refers to a system or algorithm that compresses or encodes spoken audio data for efficient transmission or storage. The primary goal of a speech encoder is to reduce the amount of data required to represent speech while minimizing the loss of perceptual quality. This is crucial for applications like voice over IP (VoIP), mobile telephony, and digital audio broadcasting, where bandwidth and storage capacity are often limited.

Speech encoders work by exploiting the redundancy and characteristics of human speech. They analyze the audio signal, identify patterns and predictable elements, and then represent these features using fewer bits.
