Jäätmehoidlad
Jäätmehoidlad, also known as landfills, are engineered sites designed for the disposal of waste materials. They are a crucial component of modern waste management systems, aiming to contain waste in a manner that minimizes environmental impact. Typically, jäätmehoidlad are constructed with impermeable liners, such as clay or synthetic membranes, to prevent leachate, a toxic liquid produced by decomposing waste, from contaminating groundwater and soil. A system of pipes is often installed to collect and treat this leachate. Additionally, gas collection systems are implemented to capture methane and other gases released during decomposition, which can be flared or used as an energy source.
The design and operation of jäätmehoidlad are subject to strict environmental regulations. Sites are carefully selected
