Jiloca

Jiloca is a comarca (county) in Aragon, Spain, located in the province of Teruel. Its capital is Calamocha, though its historical and cultural center is often considered to be Monreal del Campo. The comarca is situated in the central-eastern part of Aragon and is characterized by a semi-arid climate and a landscape dominated by rolling hills and agricultural plains. The Jiloca River, from which the comarca derives its name, is a significant geographical feature, flowing through the region and providing water for irrigation.

The economy of Jiloca has traditionally been based on agriculture, with crops such as cereals, potatoes, and sugar beet being important. Livestock farming, particularly sheep and pigs, also plays a role. In recent decades, there has been an effort to diversify the economy, with some development in rural tourism and small-scale industries. The area is known for its historical towns and villages, many of which retain traditional Aragonese architecture. Archaeological finds suggest a long history of human settlement in the region, dating back to prehistoric times. The comarca is also part of the larger comarca of Comunidad de Teruel in administrative terms.
