Derek Sanderson Jeter, born June 26, 1974, is an American former professional baseball shortstop who played for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB) for 20 seasons from 1995 to 2014. Born in Pequannock Township, New Jersey, he grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and attended Kalamazoo Central High School. Drafted by the Yankees in 1992, Jeter made his MLB debut in 1995 and quickly established himself as a core member of the franchise’s success during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
