Jarðstraumsvörn

Jarðstraumsvörn, which translates to "earth current protection" in English, is a protective measure employed in electrical systems to prevent damage caused by stray earth currents. These currents, also known as leakage currents or fault currents, can arise from various sources, including insulation breakdown, faulty wiring, or lightning strikes. They flow through the ground and can potentially reach sensitive electronic equipment, communication lines, and even people, posing a significant safety hazard.

The primary goal of jarðstraumsvörn is to detect and interrupt these unwanted currents before they can cause harm. This is typically achieved through a combination of components. Grounding, or earthing, is a fundamental aspect, providing a low-resistance path for fault currents to dissipate safely into the earth.
