JWTtokeneita, short for JSON Web Tokens, are a standardized, open (RFC 7519) way for securely transmitting information between parties as a JSON object. This information can be verified and trusted because it is digitally signed. JWTs are commonly used for authentication and information exchange in web applications.

A JWT consists of three parts separated by dots: a header, a payload, and a signature. The header typically contains information about the token type and the signing algorithm used. The payload contains the claims, which are statements about an entity (typically, the user) and additional data. Claims can be registered, public, or private. The signature is used to verify that the sender of the JWT is who it says it is and to ensure that the message wasn't changed along the way. The signature is created by taking the encoded header, the encoded payload, a secret, and an algorithm specified in the header, and then signing them.

JWTs are useful because they are compact and self-contained, meaning they can be sent between parties as a JSON object without needing to be serialized. This makes them well-suited for transmission over HTTP. They are also stateless, as the server does not need to store any information about the token on its side; all necessary information is contained within the token itself. This can simplify server-side logic and improve scalability. However, it's important to note that sensitive data should not be placed in the payload of a JWT, as it is only base64 encoded and can be easily decoded.
