Jäädytykseen

Jäädytykseen, often translated as "freezing" or "ice preservation" in English, refers to the process of using low temperatures to preserve biological materials, food, or other substances. This method exploits the fact that extremely low temperatures significantly slow down or halt biological and chemical reactions, thereby preventing spoilage, degradation, or unwanted changes.

In the context of food preservation, jäädytykseen involves rapidly lowering the temperature of food items to below their freezing point, typically around -18°C (0°F) or lower. This process inhibits the growth of microorganisms like bacteria and molds, which are responsible for food spoilage. It also slows down enzymatic activity, preserving the texture, flavor, and nutritional value of the food for extended periods. Common frozen foods include meats, fruits, vegetables, and prepared meals.

Beyond food, jäädytykseen is a critical technique in scientific research and medicine.
