Enantiomers are non-superimposable mirror images of each other, while diastereomers are not mirror images. For example, tartaric acid has two enantiomers, D-tartaric acid and L-tartaric acid, which are mirror images of each other. In contrast, glucose and fructose are diastereomers, as they are not mirror images but have the same molecular formula and bonding arrangement.
