Isotermaalsetse

Isotermaalsetse refers to a process where a system undergoes a change at a constant temperature. In thermodynamics, an isothermal process is one that occurs very slowly, allowing for efficient heat exchange with the surroundings. This ensures that the temperature of the system remains uniform throughout the process.

For an ideal gas, an isothermal expansion means that the gas does work on its surroundings while absorbing an equal amount of heat to maintain a constant temperature. Conversely, during an isothermal compression, work is done on the gas, and heat is released to the surroundings. The relationship between pressure and volume during an isothermal process for an ideal gas is described by Boyle's Law, which states that the product of pressure and volume is constant (PV = constant) at a fixed temperature.

Isothermal processes are fundamental concepts in understanding heat engines, refrigerators, and chemical reactions. For example, in a Carnot cycle, which represents the most efficient theoretical heat engine, both the heat absorption and heat rejection stages are isothermal. Understanding these processes is crucial for analyzing energy transfer and transformations in various physical and chemical systems.
