Isobutaani

Isobutaani, also known as 2-methylpropane, is a branched-chain alkane with the chemical formula (CH3)2CHCH3. It is a structural isomer of n-butane. Isobutaane is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure, with a faint gas-like odor. It is highly flammable.

Isobutaane is a component of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), often mixed with n-butane and propane. It is used as a propellant in aerosol cans, a refrigerant, and a fuel. In the petrochemical industry, isobutane is a feedstock for producing other chemicals, such as isobutylene, which is used in the production of synthetic rubber and plastics. It can also be used as a component in gasoline blending to increase octane rating.

The production of isobutane primarily occurs through the refining of crude oil and natural gas processing.
