Intti

Intti refers to the Finnish Defence Forces' conscription service, mandatory for all Finnish men upon reaching the age of 18. The service period can vary depending on the individual's rank and assigned role, typically lasting between 165 and 347 days. Women can volunteer for conscription.

The primary objective of intti is to train a reserve force capable of defending Finland. Conscripts undergo basic military training, which includes weapon handling, physical conditioning, and survival skills. Following basic training, individuals are assigned to specialized roles within various branches of the armed forces, such as the army, navy, or air force. These roles can range from combat positions to logistics, communications, and medical support.

During their service, conscripts receive accommodation, food, clothing, and a small daily allowance. The training is designed to instill discipline, teamwork, and a sense of national responsibility. Upon completion of their service, individuals are placed in the reserve, where they may be called upon for refresher training or mobilization in times of crisis.

Conscientious objectors have the option of performing alternative civilian service, which is typically longer than military service. This alternative service is managed by the National Bureau of Employment. The concept of conscription is deeply ingrained in Finnish society and is viewed as a fundamental aspect of national defense and civic duty.
