Intratympanikus

Intratympanikus refers to a medical procedure and route of administration involving the injection of substances directly into the middle ear cavity, specifically the tympanic cavity. This technique is primarily used for therapeutic purposes, particularly in the treatment of inner ear disorders. The procedure is often performed under local anesthesia and involves the insertion of a needle through the tympanic membrane (eardrum) to deliver medications such as steroids, antibiotics, or other compounds directly to the affected area.

The intratympanic route is favored in cases where systemic administration (e.g., oral or intravenous) may not be effective due to the blood-labyrinthine barrier, which restricts the passage of many drugs into the inner ear.
