Intimität

Intimität is a multifaceted concept describing the sense of closeness, trust, and mutual openness in relationships. It extends beyond physical proximity to include psychological safety and the willingness to share personal thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The term is used in German and many other languages, and its etymology traces to Latin intimus, meaning innermost.

Intimität comprises several dimensions: emotional intimacy (trust, empathy, and the ability to disclose feelings); physical intimacy

The development of intimacy depends on communication patterns, reliability, consent, and boundary-setting, as well as attachment

Intimität can be cultivated through attentive listening, nonjudgmental responses, consistent support, appropriate touch, and shared experiences.
