Intervallschätzverfahren

Intervallschätzverfahren, also known as interval estimation, is a statistical method used to estimate an unknown population parameter. Instead of providing a single point estimate, it defines a range of values within which the true parameter is likely to lie with a certain degree of confidence. This range is called a confidence interval.

The construction of a confidence interval involves a sample statistic, a confidence level, and a margin of error. The sample statistic, such as the sample mean, serves as the center of the interval. The confidence level, typically expressed as a percentage (e.g., 95%), indicates the probability that the interval contains the true population parameter if the sampling process were repeated many times. The margin of error accounts for the variability in the sample and determines the width of the interval.

A higher confidence level generally leads to a wider interval, reflecting increased certainty but less precision. Conversely, a lower confidence level results in a narrower interval, offering greater precision but less certainty. Intervallschätzverfahren is widely applied in various fields, including scientific research, market analysis, and quality control, to provide a more comprehensive understanding of population characteristics than point estimates alone. It acknowledges the inherent uncertainty in statistical inference and quantifies this uncertainty through the constructed interval.
