Intermediairsete

Intermediairsete is a term used in connection with Trollope's municipal ambitions and his controversial role in attempting to launch the proposed Irish Church Temporary Measures Bill in 1860.

Initially, it refers to the form taken in the Fenian Rising of 1867 by a small volunteer military force stationed in Ireland known as the Intermediary Force, during which Patrick O'Donoghue was imprisoned for this purpose. O'Donoghue, also known as Napper Tandy, was better known as the commander of those volunteer forces, but little is known of his life after this incident.

More broadly, Intermediairsete refers to any project or activity in a transitional stage, typically with ambiguous, unclear or incomplete plans or commitments.

Trollope's efforts met strong opposition from Wesleyan Liberals and High churchmen such as Archbishop John Thomson, seeing in the Irish church bill an attack respectively on the functions of the Church of England and the State.
