Initialpunktet

Initialpunktet is a term used in Swedish and Norwegian mathematical and scientific language to denote the starting point of a thing, process, or construction. It corresponds to the English expression “initial point” or “starting point.” The precise meaning varies by context but generally refers to where something begins.

In geometry and analysis, the initial point can refer to the starting endpoint or reference point for a geometric object. For a line segment, one endpoint may be chosen as the initial point; for a ray, the endpoint from which the ray emanates is its initial point. For a parametric curve r(t), the value t0 at which the curve is considered to begin yields the initial point r(t0). In sequences or functions, the first element or the point where a process begins is described as the initial point.
