Ingatlanazonosítás refers to the process of uniquely identifying a real estate property. This is crucial for a variety of legal, administrative, and financial purposes in Hungary. This number is assigned by the land registry office and serves as a unique identifier for each parcel of land.

In addition to the cadastral number, properties are also identified by their address, which includes the street name, building number, city, and postal code. This address is used for practical purposes like mail delivery and emergency services. For official transactions and legal certainty, the cadastral number is paramount.

The land registry, or ingatlan-nyilvántartás, maintains detailed records of all properties, including their cadastral numbers, ownership details, and any encumbrances such as mortgages or easements. Access to this information is regulated and typically requires a legitimate interest.

Other identifying elements can include a unique property identifier code, especially for newly registered or subdivided properties. The municipality where the property is located also plays a role in its identification, as cadastral districts are often organized by administrative boundaries.
