InfoPackage

An InfoPackage is a fundamental object in SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) used to load data into InfoProviders. InfoProviders are objects within SAP BW that store data and are used for reporting and analysis. An InfoPackage defines the parameters and settings required to extract data from a source system and load it into a target InfoProvider.

The configuration of an InfoPackage involves several key aspects. Firstly, it specifies the source system from which data will be extracted, which can be an SAP system, a file, or a database. Secondly, it defines the extraction mode, such as a full load or an incremental load, determining whether all data or only new or changed data will be transferred. Thirdly, it details the selection criteria, allowing users to filter the data to be extracted based on specific conditions. Additionally, an InfoPackage can include settings for data transfer and error handling.

InfoPackages are typically executed manually or scheduled to run at regular intervals. Once an InfoPackage is executed, it initiates the data extraction process from the source, followed by the data loading into the designated InfoProvider. This process is crucial for populating the data warehouse with relevant business information, enabling reporting and decision-making. While InfoPackages are a core component for data loading, more advanced data staging and transformation scenarios in SAP BW often utilize Data Transfer Processes (DTPs) and Transformation rules.
