Inflatsiooninäitajale is the Estonian term for inflation indicator. An inflation indicator is a statistical measure used to quantify the rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is rising. It is a crucial metric for understanding economic health and making informed financial decisions.

The most common inflation indicator is the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI tracks the average change over time in the prices paid by urban consumers for a market basket of consumer goods and services. This basket typically includes items such as food, housing, transportation, apparel, medical care, and recreation. By comparing the price of this basket in different periods, economists can calculate the inflation rate.

Another important indicator is the Producer Price Index (PPI), which measures the average change over time in the selling prices received by domestic producers for their output. The PPI can sometimes be a leading indicator for the CPI, as rising production costs may eventually be passed on to consumers.

Central banks and governments closely monitor inflation indicators. High inflation can erode the purchasing power of money, while deflation (a decrease in prices) can signal economic stagnation. Policymakers use inflation data to guide monetary policy decisions, such as adjusting interest rates, in an effort to maintain price stability and foster sustainable economic growth. Different countries may use slightly different methodologies or include different components in their inflation indicators.
