Induktanssikomponentti, commonly known as an inductor, is a passive electrical component that stores energy in a magnetic field when electric current flows through it. It is typically constructed by winding a coil of wire around a core material. The core can be made of air, iron, ferrite, or other ferromagnetic materials, which influences the inductor's properties. The fundamental property of an inductor is its inductance, measured in henries (H). Inductance quantifies how effectively the component opposes changes in the current flowing through it. When the current changes, the magnetic field also changes, inducing a voltage across the inductor that opposes this change. This phenomenon is known as self-inductance. Inductors are used in a wide variety of electronic circuits, including filters, oscillators, transformers, and energy storage systems. Their ability to store and release magnetic energy makes them crucial for applications requiring the manipulation of alternating currents and radio frequencies. The resistance of the wire also contributes to the inductor's overall impedance, which is frequency-dependent.
