Indeksitüüpide refers to the classification of indexes used in databases and computer science. Indexes are data structures that improve the speed of data retrieval operations on a database table at the cost of additional writes and storage space to maintain the extra read-that-data structure. Understanding different index types is crucial for optimizing database performance.

Common types of indexes include B-tree indexes, hash indexes, and full-text indexes. B-tree indexes are the most common and are suitable for a wide range of queries, including range queries and equality matches. They are structured like a balanced tree, allowing for efficient searching, insertion, and deletion of data. Hash indexes are ideal for exact match queries. They use a hash function to compute a hash value for each key, which directly points to the location of the data. However, they are not efficient for range queries. Full-text indexes are designed to efficiently search through large amounts of text data. They index words or terms within documents, enabling complex text-based searches such as keyword matching, phrase searching, and proximity searching.

Other specialized index types exist, such as spatial indexes for geographical data and bitmap indexes for columns with low cardinality (few distinct values). The choice of index type depends heavily on the specific query patterns and data characteristics of the application. Proper indexing can significantly reduce query execution times, leading to a more responsive and efficient system. Conversely, poorly chosen or excessive indexing can degrade performance due to the overhead of maintaining the index structures.
