Impedanciaegyeztetés, or impedance matching in English, is a technique used in electrical engineering to maximize power transfer between a source and a load, or to minimize signal reflection. When the impedance of the source and the load are not matched, some of the signal energy is reflected back towards the source rather than being fully absorbed by the load. This can lead to signal degradation, reduced efficiency, and potential damage to components.

The principle behind impedance matching is that maximum power is transferred from a source to a load when the load impedance is the complex conjugate of the source impedance. This applies to both resistive and reactive components of impedance. For example, in radio frequency (RF) circuits, impedance matching is crucial for efficient transmission of signals between antennas and transmission lines, or between different stages of an amplifier. Mismatched impedances can cause standing waves on transmission lines, leading to power loss and distorted signals.

Various methods are employed for impedance matching, including the use of matching networks. These networks are typically composed of passive components like resistors, capacitors, and inductors, arranged in specific configurations. Common matching network designs include L-networks, Pi-networks, and T-networks. The choice of network depends on the specific impedance values to be matched and the desired frequency range. Impedance matching is also important in audio systems, particularly in connecting speakers to amplifiers, to ensure optimal sound quality and prevent damage to the amplifier.
