Imads

Imads refers to a class of small, highly mobile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed for tactical reconnaissance and surveillance. These systems are typically deployed by ground forces at the platoon or company level, providing real-time battlefield intelligence. Imads are characterized by their lightweight construction, rapid deployment capabilities, and ability to operate in diverse environments.

The primary function of an Imads is to extend the observational range of ground commanders, allowing them to identify potential threats, assess terrain, and gather information on enemy positions without exposing personnel. They are often equipped with electro-optical or infrared (EO/IR) cameras, providing both day and night imaging capabilities. Some Imads can also carry small payloads for other purposes, such as electronic warfare or target designation.

The operational concept behind Imads involves launching the UAV from a handheld or small ground-based launcher. Once airborne, it can be manually piloted or follow a pre-programmed flight path. Operators receive live video feeds, enabling them to make informed decisions. After completing its mission, the Imads is typically recovered by landing or parachuting.
