Ilmatar is a prominent figure in Finnish mythology, often described as the virgin goddess of the air. She is the daughter of the wind, the mother of the sea, and the creator of the sky. In the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, Ilmatar is depicted as a beautiful maiden who descended from the heavens and lay on the waters for seven hundred years.
