Ilmakehäkerrosten refers to the layers of Earth's atmosphere. The atmosphere is divided into distinct regions based on temperature profiles. The lowest layer, closest to the Earth's surface, is the troposphere. This is where weather phenomena occur and where most of the atmosphere's mass is concentrated. Above the troposphere lies the stratosphere, characterized by a temperature increase with altitude due to the absorption of ultraviolet radiation by the ozone layer. The mesosphere is the next layer, where temperatures decrease again with altitude, and it is the coldest part of the atmosphere. The thermosphere is above the mesosphere, where temperatures rise dramatically due to the absorption of high-energy solar radiation, though the air is extremely thin. Within the thermosphere, the ionosphere, a region ionized by solar and cosmic radiation, plays a crucial role in radio wave propagation. Finally, the exosphere is the outermost layer, gradually merging with outer space.
