Ike

Ike is a masculine given name and nickname. It is commonly derived from Isaac, and in some cases from Dwight, as in the nickname of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Over time, Ike has become a given name in its own right and is used independently of a longer form.

Notable people known as Ike include Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969), the 34th president of the United States and a World War II Allied commander; Ike Turner (1931–2007), American musician and founder of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue; Ike Barinholtz (born 1977), American actor and comedian; and Ike Reese (born 1973), American former football linebacker.

In fiction, Ike is the name of the main protagonist in the Fire Emblem series, notably in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (2005) and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (2007). The character is a skilled swordsman and central figure in the games’ storyline.

In technology, IKE stands for Internet Key Exchange, the protocol used to set up IPsec security associations between peers.

The name has appeared across cultures and media, and remains in use today as both a standalone given name and a familiar form of longer names such as Isaac or Dwight.
