Ijinkan

Ijinkan, also known as the "Foreigner's Building," is a historic architectural landmark located in Kobe, Japan. Constructed in 1868, it served as a residence for Western diplomats and merchants following the opening of Kobe's port to foreign trade. The building is a prime example of Western architectural styles prevalent in the late 19th century, featuring elements such as a prominent veranda, large windows, and a pitched roof.

The Ijinkan played a significant role in the early development of Kobe as an international city, fostering interactions between Japanese and foreign communities. After its period of use by foreigners, the building underwent various transformations, eventually becoming a museum and a symbol of Kobe's historical connections to the West.
