Ideatom

Ideatom refers to the basic unit of mental matter, a concept used in psychology, philosophy, and cognitive science to describe the hypothetical fundamental particles or building blocks of thought, ideas, and knowledge. The idea of ideatoms is analogous to the atomic theory in physics, where atoms are considered the fundamental units of matter.

The concept of ideatoms has been developed in various ways by different philosophers and researchers, but the core idea remains the same: that ideas, concepts, and mental images are composed of smaller, indivisible units that cannot be further broken down into more fundamental components. In the 18th century, philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel wrote about a similar concept, which he called "moments," but the modern development of ideatoms as a distinct concept began in the 20th century with the work of psychologist and philosopher Rudolf Carnap.

Ideatoms are often seen as simple mental units, such as observations, perceptions, or basic concepts that can be combined to form more complex mental structures and ideas. They can be considered as the basic "digits" of thought, in which elements such as images, propositions, or other mental constructs are classified, linked, and organized into more complex mental frameworks and constructs.
