Ichhoodementsanimals, also known as Ichthyosaurs, were a group of marine reptiles that lived during the Mesozoic era, from the Late Triassic to the end of the Cretaceous period, approximately 248 to 66 million years ago. They are one of the most well-known groups of marine reptiles, alongside the Plesiosaurs and Pliosaurs. Ichthyosaurs are characterized by their streamlined bodies, flippers, and a long, serpentine tail, which allowed them to swim efficiently through the water.

The earliest known ichthyosaur, Euparkeria, appeared around 248 million years ago, during the Late Triassic. Over time, ichthyosaurs evolved into a diverse range of forms, from small, agile predators like Ophthalmosaurus to large, filter-feeding giants like Shonisaurus. Some ichthyosaurs, like the Late Cretaceous genus Styxosaurus, were among the largest marine reptiles ever known, with some species reaching lengths of over 40 feet.

Ichthyosaurs are believed to have gone extinct around 66 million years ago, along with the non-avian dinosaurs, during the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. The cause of their extinction is still debated, but it is likely that a combination of factors, including climate change and competition with other marine predators, played a role.

Ichthyosaurs are known from fossil remains found in marine deposits around the world, including Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and Asia. Their fossils provide valuable insights into the evolution of marine reptiles and the history of the oceans during the Mesozoic era.
