Ibbi-Sin was a ruler of ancient Mesopotamia, the fifth and last king of the Third Dynasty of Ur (Ur III). His name is Sumerian, containing the theophoric element of Sin, the moon god, and is conventionally rendered as Ibbi-Sin. He ascended the throne after his father Shu-Sin, ruling in the late 21st century BCE, during a period of substantial centralization of power and bureaucratic consolidation in southern Mesopotamia. The Ur III state maintained a highly organized administration centered on the royal palace and temple complexes in Ur, with a standardized system of tax collection, labor, and record-keeping and a flourishing scribe culture.
