ISO14064

ISO 14064 is a set of international standards for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals. It consists of three parts: ISO 14064-1, ISO 14064-2, and ISO 14064-3.

ISO 14064-1 provides guidance for organizations on how to determine their greenhouse gas inventory. It outlines principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing, and reporting an organizational GHG inventory. This includes defining organizational boundaries, identifying emission sources and sinks, and calculating GHG quantities. The standard categorizes emissions into three scopes: Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned or controlled sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions that occur in an organization's value chain).

ISO 14064-2 specifies requirements and guidance for an organization's greenhouse gas projects. It focuses on quantifying and reporting GHG emissions and removals that are a direct consequence of a project. This part helps in establishing a baseline, identifying project boundaries, and monitoring and reporting project-specific GHG impacts.

ISO 14064-3 provides guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas information. It sets out principles and requirements for organizations and individuals who conduct verification or validation of GHG statements. This ensures the credibility and reliability of the reported GHG data.

Together, these standards provide a comprehensive framework for organizations to manage, measure, and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts. They promote transparency and consistency in GHG accounting and reporting.
