IRspektrometrit

IRspektrometrit is a hypothetical mineral term used in teaching to illustrate how infrared spectroscopy can be applied to mineral analysis. It is not an officially recognized mineral species in major databases, but serves as a constructive example in educational materials.

In educational scenarios, IRspektrometrit is described as a silicate mineral with a three-dimensional framework of Si-O-Si linkages and the potential inclusion of hydroxyl groups or structural water. Its infrared spectrum is imagined to reflect common silicate features, including strong absorptions near 1100 cm^-1 due to Si-O stretching and bands in the 800–900 cm^-1 region from Si-O-Si bending. A broad O-H stretch around 3400–3600 cm^-1 would appear if hydroxyl or water is present, and low-frequency lattice modes could be observed near 450–700 cm^-1. If organic components are considered in some hypothetical variants, C-H stretches near 2850–2960 cm^-1 and related C-O bands around 1200–1300 cm^-1 might be included.

Occurrence and use are strictly didactic; IRspektrometrit is not intended to describe a real natural sample. The concept emphasizes how infrared spectroscopy helps identify bond types and functional groups, enabling differentiation of minerals through characteristic absorption patterns rather than fixed compositions.
