IRIG stands for Inter-Range Instrumentation Group, a committee that developed these standards for use in missile test ranges. The primary purpose of IRIG time codes is to ensure that data recorded by different instruments or at different locations can be accurately correlated in time.
There are several formats of IRIG time codes, with the most common being IRIG-B, IRIG-G, and IRIG-H.
