IIIlike is a conceptual framework in recommender systems and online engagement that models user preference using three parallel signals. The term arises from the three I-shaped signals it aggregates.

Explicit likes: direct ratings or thumbs-up actions; Implicit engagement: dwell time, scrolling depth, replays or pauses; Inferred social signals: endorsements from a user’s network and observed interactions among peers.

Implementation: Data from each signal is collected and cleaned. Each stream is mapped to latent features, and a fusion model combines them into a single relevance score. Common approaches include multi-view learning, ensemble methods, and neural fusion networks. The framework is used to rank items in feeds, search results, and recommendations.

Evaluation and considerations: Offline metrics such as NDCG or AUC gauge accuracy, while online A/B tests measure user engagement and retention. Benefits include more accurate personalization and better balance between novelty and relevance. Challenges include bias amplification, cold-start for new users or items, privacy concerns, and increased computational complexity.

The concept is occasionally cited in academic and industry discussions as a case study of multi-signal recommendation, emphasizing the trade-offs between data sensitivity and predictive performance. Clear disclosure and governance are recommended when applying three-way signals.
