IFIT1

Interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats 1, also known as IFIT1, is a protein encoded by the IFIT1 gene. This gene is part of the interferon-inducible gene family, which are activated by the presence of interferons, signaling molecules produced by the body in response to viral infections. IFIT1 plays a crucial role in the innate immune system, acting as a defense mechanism against viruses.

The protein IFIT1 functions as an RNA-binding protein. It has been shown to inhibit the translation of viral messenger RNA (mRNA) by binding to it and blocking the ribosome's ability to synthesize viral proteins.
