Højtryksbrændsystemet, which translates to "high-pressure fuel system" in English, refers to the componentry within an internal combustion engine responsible for delivering fuel to the combustion chamber at elevated pressures. This system is a critical part of modern fuel injection technology, distinguishing itself from older, lower-pressure carbureted or indirect injection systems. The primary goal of a high-pressure fuel system is to atomize fuel into extremely fine droplets, enabling more efficient and complete combustion.

Key components of a typical højtryksbrændsystem include a high-pressure fuel pump, fuel injectors, and a fuel rail. The high-pressure pump is often driven mechanically by the engine or electrically and is designed to generate the necessary high pressures. These pressures can vary significantly depending on the engine type, but are typically in the hundreds or even thousands of bar. The fuel rail acts as a reservoir, distributing the pressurized fuel to each injector. The injectors are electronically controlled solenoid valves or piezoelectric actuators that precisely meter and spray the fuel into the cylinder or intake port at the optimal moment.
