Hötorget

Hötorget is a public square located in the southern part of Norrmalm, a district in central Stockholm, Sweden. The square is situated near the busy shopping street Drottninggatan and serves as a major meeting point for locals and tourists alike. It is named after a nearby horse market that was once held on the site.

The square itself is occupied by a large public fountain, designed by Swedish sculptor Carl Eldh and inaugurated in 1912. The fountain features three bronze figures, each representing a different season, and is surrounded by a collection of small marble sculptures depicting various scenes from nature. In the center of the square stands a large granite obelisk, originally built as a temporary Christmas tree stand in the 1920s, but later converted into a permanent landmark.

Throughout the years, Hötorget has undergone several transformations. In the beginning of the 20th century, the area was dominated by horse-selling business and other bustling activities. In the 1920s, the area was redesigned, and a garden was built, which served as a popular recreation spot for Stockholm's residents. Today, Hötorget is a vibrant public space, home to various vendors, stall holders, and street performers, as well as several high-rise buildings and office complexes. The square plays an important role in the city's social and cultural events, hosting various outdoor concerts and festivities throughout the year.
