Hírmondós is a Hungarian term that translates to "news-bearer" or "messenger of news." They could also be more informal messengers, perhaps traveling merchants or even ordinary individuals tasked with carrying personal letters or community news. Their journeys often involved significant distances and could be perilous, requiring them to navigate various terrains and potentially hostile environments.

The role of the hírmondós diminished with the advent of more sophisticated communication technologies, such as the telegraph and modern postal systems. However, the concept of a person dedicated to relaying information remains fundamental to the functioning of society.
