Hypotenzím

Hypotenzím is a Czech term that translates to hypotension in English. It refers to a condition characterized by abnormally low blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. When this pressure is too low, it can mean that the body is not receiving enough blood and oxygen to function properly.

Several factors can contribute to hypotension. These include dehydration, which reduces blood volume, blood loss from injury or internal bleeding, and certain medical conditions such as heart problems, endocrine disorders like thyroid issues, and severe infections. Some medications, particularly those for high blood pressure, diuretics, and certain antidepressants, can also cause low blood pressure.

The symptoms of hypotension can vary depending on the severity and cause. Mild hypotension may not cause any noticeable symptoms. However, more significant drops in blood pressure can lead to dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting (syncope), blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, and cold, clammy skin. In severe cases, hypotension can be a sign of shock, a life-threatening condition where organs are not getting enough blood flow.

Diagnosis of hypotension typically involves measuring blood pressure. Healthcare providers will also inquire about symptoms, medical history, and medications. Further tests may be conducted to identify the underlying cause. Treatment depends on the cause and can range from simple measures like increasing fluid and salt intake to managing underlying medical conditions or adjusting medications.
