Hydrofobisuudella
Hydrofobisuudella refers to the property of a substance to repel water. The term originates from Greek words 'hydro' meaning water and 'phobos' meaning fear. Hydrophobic substances are generally nonpolar molecules, meaning they do not have a significant separation of electrical charge. Water, on the other hand, is a polar molecule due to its uneven distribution of charge. As a result, polar water molecules are strongly attracted to each other and to other polar molecules, forming hydrogen bonds. Nonpolar molecules, lacking this charge separation, are not attracted to polar water molecules and therefore tend to aggregate together, effectively pushing water away.
This phenomenon is observed in many natural and synthetic materials. For example, oil and water do not
