Hvattian

Hvattian is a term used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding to designate either the people of a fictional polity called Hvattia or the language they speak. It is not attested as a real-world ethnicity or language.

In most imagined settings, Hvattia is portrayed as a small or medium-sized country, or island nation, with diverse communities. The identity of Hvattians is described differently by authors, ranging from seafaring traders to insular farmers. The name Hvattian is generally derived from the name Hvattia, though there is no canonical origin.

Hvattian as a language is usually presented as a distinct tongue with its own phonology, grammar, and vocabulary. Descriptions vary widely; some works depict it as agglutinative, others as analytic or synthetic. In many depictions, Hvattian features a storied oral tradition and a system of honorifics.
