Hundlein

Hundlein is a small municipality and parish in the fictional region of Northmark. Located in the northern foothills, it covers about 42 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 3,900 residents.

The name Hundlein is of Germanic origin. It is first attested in the 13th century as Hundelin, probably derived from a personal name such as Hundo or Hundel with the diminutive suffix -in.

The landscape comprises agricultural fields, mixed forests, and the Silverbach River that runs through the eastern valley. The municipality is governed by a twelve-member town council and an elected mayor.

Hundlein developed from a medieval farmstead into a market village by the late Middle Ages. It expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries with local crafts and the arrival of a regional railway, which boosted trade and population. In the 20th century it shifted toward diversified services and small manufacturing.

The local economy relies on agriculture (dairy and cereals), small-scale woodworking and metalworking, and services. Cultural life centers on the parish church, the town square, and an annual harvest festival; there is a small museum documenting regional rural life.

Infrastructure and landmarks include regional road connections and access to nearby rail links. The community maintains one primary school and a secondary school in the district, as well as a local library. Notable landmarks are the ruins of Hundlein Castle and the 14th-century St. Mary's Church.
