Hullal
Hullal is a term used in parts of Karnataka, India, to describe a traditional rural festival or ritual associated with certain communities. The practice is regionally variable and not standardized; what counts as hullal can differ from village to village and from one community to another. In general, hullal refers to a gathering that centers on communal participation, devotional elements, and seasonal or agricultural observances. Elements commonly reported in ethnographic sources include songs, drums, dances, and processional rites, along with offerings to deities or spirits. The rituals are typically conducted by local elders, priests, or community leaders and may involve the decoration of homes or temples, communal meals, and the distribution of offerings to participants.
The historical origins of hullal are not well documented in standard reference works and are primarily preserved
