Homosügootsust

Homosügootsust is a biological term referring to a state where an individual possesses two identical alleles for a particular gene. This is in contrast to heterosügootsust, where an individual has two different alleles for the same gene. The term originates from Greek roots: "homo" meaning "same" and "zygon" meaning "yoke," indicating the paired alleles are alike. An organism that is homosügoots for a specific trait will express that trait if the allele is dominant, or if the allele is recessive and there is no dominant allele present. Inheritance patterns often describe individuals as being homosügoots dominant (e.g., AA) or homosügoots recessive (e.g., aa).
