Hindic
Hindic is a historical and occasionally encountered designation for a sub-branch of the Indo-Aryan languages associated with the central and northern Indian subcontinent, particularly the Hindustan region. The name derives from Hindustan, the traditional term for the vast plains of northern India. In modern linguistic practice, Hindic is not a widely adopted, formal subgroup; most scholars classify the relevant varieties under Indo-Aryan and frequently refer to Hindustani or central Indo-Aryan varieties rather than a distinct Hindic branch.
