Hierarchical

Hierarchical is an adjective describing systems, organizations, or classifications that are arranged in a hierarchy—a multi-level framework in which components at higher levels control or subsume those at lower levels. In a hierarchical arrangement, elements are ordered by rank, status, or function, and authority or influence tends to flow downward through the levels. The word derives from the Greek hierarchia, from hieros sacred and archein to rule, via Latin and medieval usage into English.
