Heterotardigrades
Heterotardigrades are a class within the phylum Tardigrada, commonly known as water bears or moss piglets. They are microscopic invertebrates characterized by their eight-legged, segmented bodies and clawed appendages. Unlike eutardigrades, heterotardigrades possess a distinct cuticle that is shed periodically, a process called molting. They also have a more rigid, non-muscular cuticle compared to their eutardigrade relatives.
These organisms are found in a wide variety of environments across the globe, including marine sediments, freshwater
Heterotardigrades are typically herbivores or omnivores, feeding on plant cells, algae, bacteria, and sometimes smaller invertebrates.
