Heterologously
Heterologously refers to something originating from or introduced from outside a particular organism or system. In biology, the term is commonly used to describe the expression of a gene or protein in a host organism that does not naturally possess that gene. This process is fundamental to genetic engineering and biotechnology. For example, if a gene from a bacterium is introduced and expressed in a yeast cell, the yeast is said to be expressing the bacterial gene heterologously. This allows scientists to study gene function, produce valuable proteins like insulin or vaccines, and develop genetically modified organisms.
The term can also apply to other biological contexts, such as transplantation. A heterologous transplant, also
